I suppose that all of you have been reading the ongoing debate about the conference all week :P

I agree Lianne, i wasn't as disappointed with it as some but i do think it could have been much more productive.

Mary, i had that exact post in mind when i wrote that about men and opinion pieces on feminist issues!Hannah Mudgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06367085612049349757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327544553976967122.post-49978856670148270912011-01-12T10:50:27.478+00:002011-01-12T10:50:27.478+00:00well said hannah. it's ridiculous to have a wo...well said hannah. it's ridiculous to have a workshop asking how to get women engaged online, women are early adopters of blogging and social media anyway.

the issue is encouraging everyone to listen to women, hear our voices, don't derail and silence and make rude comments about our sex lives or physical appearance to shut us up.

we're here. we're on the net. you're not listening!sianandcrookedribhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00959715300131969670noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327544553976967122.post-91329239873853920412011-01-11T14:09:04.138+00:002011-01-11T14:09:04.138+00:00Its been very interesting reading up on people'...Its been very interesting reading up on people's reactions to the conference. I'm glad in a way I didn't go, simply because I'm sure I'd have been just as frustrated. Laurie Penny, amongst others, has communicated this very well. (I have her on a separate tab on twitter for a reason!).

I sometimes wonder whether your story of women being ignored and men being hailed as visionary for saying the same thing might not sometimes be more a case of women logging out of primary identities and logging on as their male secondary.

The party stuff nauseates me no end - non-hierarchical organising is something I'm surprised women don't pursue more of.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327544553976967122.post-60502289391364235182011-01-10T21:36:45.750+00:002011-01-10T21:36:45.750+00:00Brilliant piece. I've been following the apparent fallout over Netroots on Twitter, and your post has enlightened me as to what exactly I missed by not being there on Saturday.

I remember when this piece was published. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/apr/18/students-pole-dancing-david-mitchell

I was so happy reading it I almost cried, because I knew it would draw a much warmer response from the CiFers than if Cath Elliott or Laurie Penny had written it. This in itself not a good thing. I am delighted to have David Mitchell as an ally, but I wish women, and feminists of any gender were taken seriously, both online and in RL.Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15762762262178386095noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-327544553976967122.post-80483741219805916152011-01-10T21:30:19.485+00:002011-01-10T21:30:19.485+00:00Good post - I love the diversity of opinion and ex...Good post - I love the diversity of opinion and experiences of the conference, but I think your summary is particularly articulate!

Not sure I feel as disappointed as some were with the session, partly because I felt somewhat excluded during the entire day!

I agree that the question being asked was probably not worded correctly, and I would've liked to have seen an understanding of the effect on women and other groups incorporated into all the sessions, because it's so fundamental.

If we're not fighting for and with the vulnerable groups, what are we doing?

[At the risk of sounding cynical, it seemed at times like some delegates were beating the drum for their own political causes.]

LianneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
